Obituary: Wayne Scott Wooden

Reverend Wayne Scott Wooden ~ November 27, 1959 ~ September 4, 2022 (age 62)

Reverend Wayne Scott Wooden was born November 27, 1959, to the late Mr. J. B. Wooden Sr. and Mrs. Rosie Lee Wooden of Toone, Tennessee. On September 4, 2022 at Methodist University Hospital, our Heavenly Father summoned another one of his servants home.

His funeral service was held on Wednesday September 14, 2022, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church-Jackson at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Ernest Polk in charge. Burial was in the Jimmerson Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home was in charge of the professional service.

One brother, J. B. Wooden Jr. and one sister, Doretha Wooden Pirtle, preceded him in death.

Wayne professed a hope in Christ as a child, and joined Clover Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Joe Miller. Later, he joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. David L. Boyle. At the age of 17, Wayne accepted the call and commission of God to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With sincerity and dedication, he used every opportunity to witness about the love of his Lord and Savior. He preached and praised God to the end. Reverend Wayne Scott Wooden was an active and faithful member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ernest Polk at his transition.

At the age of 25, Wayne exchanged marital vows with Miss Priscilla Woods and God blessed them with two children to nurture and train, that they might know the Lord. He worked at Harman Automotive for several years. Later as entrepreneur, he established A & W Asphalt Company, along with his son.

Reverend Wayne S. Wooden leaves a legacy of: honesty, diligent worker, his love for Christ, and love for his family. Precious memories will forever be cherished by: his loving/devoted wife, Priscilla Wooden; son, Mr. Antomareo ‘Marques’ (Tiffany) Wooden, Bolivar, Tennessee; daughter, Mrs. Corshonta (Gabriel) Harper, Douglasville, Georgia; three grandsons, A. J. Wooden, Gabriel ‘Deuce’, and Grant Harper; four brothers, Mr. Richard (Beulah) Wooden, Mr. Preston (Doris) Wooden, Mr. Ronald (Tammy) Wooden, and Reverend Robert (Camille) Wooden, Toone, Tennessee; three sisters, Ms. Candise Spinks, Rockford, Illinois, Mrs. Martha (Richard) Arnold, Medina, Tennessee, and Mrs. Lena (Joe) Hudson, Jackson, Tennessee; nine brothers-in-law, Mr. Rochell (Tasha) Woods, Willie Woods, Mr. Robert (Linda) Woods, Lorenzo (Deidra) Woods, Bolivar, Tennessee.,Mr. Lawrence Woods, Damion (Jessica) Woods, and U L (Deborah) Woods, St. Louis, Missouri, Sham Jr. (Natasha) Woods, Chris (Brooks) Woods, Memphis, Tennessee; seven sisters-in-law, Laquida WoodsGray, Bolivar, Tennessee, Alberta Wooden, Toone, Tennessee, Dr. Vanessa (Alec) Morrow, Olive Branch, Mississippi, Mrs. Charity (Eld. Michael) Carpenter, Mrs. Louise (Stephone) Felton, Youlanda Woods, Memphis, Tennessee, and Deshaun (Robert) Woods, St. Louis, Missouri; a host of nieces, cousins, nephews, special friends, and many clergymen whom he loved dearly and held a special place in Wayne’s heart.
