Soundbox Rocks Out at the Arts Council for Christmas Concert

Soundbox came to Hardeman County on Saturday, December 16, 2023, and as promised rocked out the Hardeman County Arts Center (HCAC) with a “Rockin’ Christmas Celebration Featuring Music by Soundbox”. The concert, sponsored by the HCAC and Homeschool Roster, brought a music sound to the city full of a lot of energy and Christmas spirit.

Soundbox, composed of five extremely talented teens, Isabella, Jason, Josh, Kevin, and Seba, put on a show that included their rock versions of Christmas classics like “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Please Come Home for Christmas”, “Slient Night”, and “Little Drummer Boy”. The group also performed some self-titled songs like “Liar, Liar”, “Brownie”, and “Ruin Your Life” to better introduce the audience to their style of music.

Some of Soundboxes performances this year have included playing at Grizzlies games at the FedEx Forum and this past fall at the Mid-South Fair, in Southaven, Mississippi. The Christmas concert at the HCAC closed out its 2023 performance season.

Isabella DeFir at lead vocals grabbed the mic and took off with her high energy singing performance and did not slow down until the close of the show. Each musician had a chance to shine individually as did Jason on the keyboards and Seba on the drums with the “Peanuts – Charlie Brown Dance (Linus and Lucy)” song. What makes the band members so unique is their skilled experience playing multiple instruments with Jason who plays bass, piano/keys, and drums; Josh who plays guitar, drums, piano/keys, and bass; Kevin who plays guitar, and piano/keys; and Seba who plays drums, keys, bass, and guitar.

“Soundbox did a great job with the concert. The energy was incredible, and their musical talent is impressive,” said Jennifer Smeltser with Homeschool Roster. “Although they are young, they are true professionals. I am happy they were able to present the concert and thank the HCAC for allowing Soundbox to perform and bring more variety of entertainment to Hardeman County. I hope people continue to support the Arts Council, because it is doing some really good things to promote the arts.”

A “Rockin’ Christmas Celebration Featuring Music by Soundbox” is just one of the many events held at the HCAC this past year allowing the non-profit organization to better utilize the fine arts facility where it is able to provide quality entertainment to the people in Hardeman County and its surrounding communities.

“We hope citizens of Hardeman and surrounding counties enjoy our new event offerings and we continue to bring in people from not only Hardeman County, but surrounding counties, which in turn increases tourism in the City of Bolivar and Hardeman County,” said HCAC President Brandon Burvee.
