Students Become CPR and AED Certified

Pictured are four of the six students, who are now armed with the skills and knowledge to save a life.

Six students completed a First Aid/CPR/AED Certification and Narcan Training class at the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library that was coordinated by Homeschool Roster and the Hardeman County Homeschoolers on Friday, September 15, 2023. The class followed the instruction of the American Heart Association and was taught by a fireman, who is a certified emergency medical responder.

Students received training and were certified in CPR.

Along with live and video instruction, students learned through hands-on engagement completing first aid techniques and walking through the steps and lifesaving procedures that could aid in saving someone’s life or sustaining them until medical professionals arrive on site. Students included teenagers and adults. As long as a student was able to handle the physical expectation of the class (ex: chest compression, etc.) they were encouraged to attend.

Students learned and practiced chest compressions and first aid skills.

Having the training does not guarantee you will save a life, but does equip one with the knowledge and training needed in case an emergency arises in a personal or professional environment. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification and Narcan Training are job requirement skills for some professions and can be a highly recognized skill on a resume. The certification can also be used by students working towards badges (ex: Trail Life, Boy Scouts, Heritage Girls, etc.).

Classes will be offered again in November. Visit the Homeschool Roster website to learn more about the class and how to register.
