Sunday Fire Destroys Building of Local Business

The Bolivar Fire Department (BFD) was dispatched to a fire at the Hardeman County Vision Center, Inc. on Sunday afternoon. According to a witness, it took the BFD approximately 20 minutes to respond, but she believes the delay was due to citizens not reporting the incident in a timely manner. The Bolivar Fire Department said they did respond within minutes of receiving the call. They stated they were dispatched at 4:59 pm and arrived on the scene at 5:01 pm.

The vision center is located at 725 West Market Street in Bolivar. Dr. Elizabeth Ligon, who is the optometrist at the practice, was hired by Dr. George Walters Jr. in 2015 and bought the practice from him in 2021. The building is expected to be a total loss.
