Teacher Salary Scale, Policy Updates, Annual Accomplishments Discussion at School Board Meeting {video}

The Hardeman County School board met at the school board office on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, for its monthly meeting. Present were Director of Schools Dr. Christy Smith and board members Kenny Adkins (District 1, Position 1), Jennifer Aylor (District 2, Position 3), Patricia Carter (District 2, Position 1), Johnny Davis (District 2, Position 2), Anthony Ford (District 3, Position 1), Bobby Henderson (District 1, Position 3), Brad Polk (District 1, Position 2), Gene Ross (District 3, Position 2), and Stacy Swift (District 3, Position 3).

Dr. Smith and the board met at 5:30 p.m., before the school board meeting, for a work session. Policy updates were discussed to expedite the regular board meeting.

Before the start of the meeting, school board chairman Bobby Henderson recognized special guests Hardin County board members Ron Ashe and David Baker, who were sitting in to evaluate the Hardeman County board meeting. The Hardeman County Schools board is currently recognized by the Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) as a Board of Distinction. As part of the process to continue being recognized in that manner for another three years, the board must complete requirements, one of which includes being evaluated by their peers.

Some of the discussed policies handed down by the State of Tennessee legislation covered surplus of property sales; threat assessment team; virtual education program; interscholastic athletics; use of Internet; questioning students and searches; employment of retirees; student discrimination, harassment, and bullying; use of personal communication devices; and more.

Dr. Smith presented a review of successes of students, teachers and staff, and the school board, which she referred to as “a lot of be proud of with achievement!” Some of the accomplishments Dr. Smith highlighted were dual enrollment and certification programs; twenty-one Jackson State Community College Middle College graduates, many which graduated Summa Cum Laude; improvements to school buildings; Ms. Deana Sain being named Tennessee Rural Education Association Teacher of the Year; Middleton High School being named a FAFSA Champion; six of is nine school were Level 3 and above; decrease in absenteeism; and more.
