Toone Couple Charged in Infant’s Death
A couple from Toone was arrested last week after an infant in their care died this past summer.
On August 31, 2022, deputies from the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an unresponsive infant in Toone. According to the report, deputies performed life saving CPR until EMS arrived and took over care of the infant. The infant was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
On December 30, 2022, deputies arrested Lacy M. Cummins and Quinswaylo D. Brown on charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Neglect. Additionally, Brown has been charged with 1st Degree Murder. Cummins’ bond is set at $100,000 and Brown’s bond is set at $200,000.
The law presumes newly charged defendants are innocent of the charges against them. This presumption remains with the defendant throughout every stage of the criminal process, and it is not overcome unless and until a judge or jury of their peers is convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty.
