World-Renown Eye Surgeon Dr. Ming Wang to Give Testimony in Jackson

Sight is based on the true story of Dr. Ming Wang, a poor Chinese immigrant who defies all odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States.

Dr. Ming Wang, a world-renowned eye surgeon with such a powerful Christian testimony that two movies have been made and two books have been written about him, will share his testimony in Jackson, Saturday June 24, 2023.

Hosted by Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Jackson, Dr. Wang will share his exciting testimony at Poplar Heights Baptist Church, 1980 Hollywood Drive, Jackson at 6 p.m.

Dr. Wang will talk about growing-up in Communist China during the Cultural Revolution, then fighting to come to America with $50 and a dream of freedom. He eventually earned an M.D. from Harvard and a Ph.D. in laser physics from MIT.

However, Dr. Wang struggled to understand how evolution could account for the complexity of the human eye.

“One of my professors opened a window to the Lord, and I began to understand there is a Creator for everything, so I became a Christian,” Wang says.

Wang’s conversion is recounted in the movie “God’s Not Dead,” and will be the focus of a new film this fall entitled, “Sight,” co-starring Greg Kennear. The new movie is based on Wang’s autobiography, “From Darkness to Sight,” and will be released across the country by Universal Studios October 27, 2023. The message of the film is freedom, faith, and common ground.

“We are very excited to bring Dr. Wang’s powerful testimony to West Tennessee,” said Randy Nicholas, CEF executive director. “His message of the power of Jesus Christ to change lives is the same power we share everyday with boys and girls during Bible Clubs in schools, community centers, and parks throughout our area.”

Wang often recalls his previous life as an atheist, during which he subsisted on his family’s income of $15 a month. He shares what it was like for him to suffer and have no hope. However, through persistence and tenacity, he was able to attend college in China, and in 1982 was offered a teaching assistantship in the U.S.

In 1997 Wang founded the Vanderbilt Laser Sight Center and in 2002 the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville. He performed the world’s first laser artificial cornea transplant, followed by more than 55,000 procedures.

Wang also has a heart for the people of China, for which 95 percent of its 1.4 billion citizens are atheists. The Wang Foundation for Christian Outreach to China distributes Bibles there. He also shares the message that “Faith and science do have common ground,” as he speaks across the country and around the world.

The June 24, 2023, Jackson event is free and open to the public. Donations to support the ministry of CEF will be accepted.
