Arts Council to Hold Auditions for Shrek The Musical JR.

The Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) is gearing up for its 2023/2024 theatrical season that will open with Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. Auditions are scheduled to be held in June to cast the production that will hit the HCAC stage in September 2023.

During its 2022/2023 season, the HCAC presented a variety of events that not only included theatrical productions, but also karaoke, concerts, and a magician and illusionist show. This past weekend, the HCAC closed its season with a production of Disney The Little Mermaid JR. that drew crowds to all three performances.

The HCAC cast of Shrek The Musical JR. will include people ages nine and older. Auditions will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 2 p.m. The production dates are Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9, 2023, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 2 p.m.

Synopsis: Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

All people auditioning are asked to bring their own music and be prepared to sing. There will be a piano and a CD player available, but you are encouraged to bring your music on a mobile device.

Auditions will be held at the HCAC, 1580 West Market, Bolivar, Tennessee, 38008. Call the HCAC at (731) 658-2787 for more information.
