Shiloh Cannon Firing Demonstrations in Honor of America’s 250th Birthday
In honor of the Independence Day holiday and America’s 250th birthday, Shiloh National Military Park will present Civil War cannon firing demonstrations on July 4 and 5, 2026.
The Shiloh cannon crew will use a 6-pounder field piece during firing demonstrations which was the most common field artillery piece used at the Battle of Shiloh. Of the 251-cannons present during the battle, 96 were 6-pounders.
Each 20-minute program will explore the weapons, ammunition and firing procedures that Civil War artillery crews used. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the important role artillery played during the Battle of Shiloh and throughout the Civil War.
All programs are free and open to the public. The park will host these programs across the street from the park visitor center. Demonstrations are scheduled for:
- 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on July 4
- 11:00 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on July 5
