Grand Junction and Hickory Valley Women Serve at 125th National Bird Dog Championship

The 125th running of the National Championship for Bird Dogs began on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Ames Plantation, and the women of Grand Junction and Hickory Valley were ready and willing to serve coffee and treats to those waiting for the first brace of the day to begin.

The ladies are carrying on the tradition of providing hospitality to field trial enthusiasts, which attend from all over the world. Women initially gathered in a tent to provide refreshments before the Rueben S. Rhea Sr. Memorial Clubhouse was constructed.

The National Championship for Bird Dogs has been held on the Ames Plantation since 1915 and is conducted each year beginning on the second or third Monday in February with a usual entry of about 36 English Pointers and /or English Setters competing. Several thousand field trial enthusiasts from all over the world attend the event each year.
