Hardeman County Schools Adopts New Grading Scale for 2022/2023 School Year

Hardeman County Schools announced it will adopt a new grading scale for the 2022-2023 academic year. The traditional grading scale consisting of a seven (7) point scale has been replaced with the ten (10) point scale.

The previous grading scale is:

  • A: 93 to 100
  • B: 85 to 92
  • C: 75 to 84
  • D: 70 to 74
  • F: 0 to 69

The newly implemented grading scale is:

  • A: 90 to 100
  • B: 80 to 89
  • C: 70 to 79
  • D: 60 to 69
  • F: 0 to 59

With the passage of House Bill 0324 and companion Senate Bill 0388, a new grading scale was established that must be used to assign letter grades to students enrolled in grades nine through 12 for purposes of reporting students’ grades for postsecondary financial assistance. Hardeman County Schools will be adopting the new 10pt grading scale for all students in 2nd through 12th grade.

With the new grading scale, Tennessee high school students will be able to access more academic scholarships for college both in state and out of state. The change will also increase the number of students qualifying for the HOPE Scholarship, Tennessee’s lottery-funded, merit-based award that requires either an overall high school GPA of at least 3.0 or a minimum ACT composite score of 21.
