HCAC Seeks Support to Raise Funds For Storage Building

In previous years, the building was suitable, but over time has fallen into disrepair and is no longer an option for safely preserving the set pieces in between productions.

The Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) has been “Bringing the Best of the Arts” to Hardeman and surrounding Counties in its current building since January 2005. Over the years, audiences have enjoyed theatrical productions of straight plays and musicals, and the annual production of Hee Haw, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Each one of the shows that has been presented at the arts center has included creative and skillfully designed set pieces that once a production is over, are stored until the next show. On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Hardeman County Arts Council shared a post on its Facebook page asking for help from the community with raising funds to construct a new storage building for its set pieces.

From the HCAC: WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The current storage facility for the Hee Haw set and props along with HCAC sets and props is no longer usable due to the condition of the building. Therefore, we have a pressing need to construct a new storage building at the HCAC. This comes with around a $12,000 cost to the HCAC.

We love the time we spend with you, we hope that you’ll give a dollar or two, to preserve our set pieces for me and for you . . . so they’ll see you next year on HEE HAW!

The house where the sets were stored is on the property of Western State Mental Hospital in Bolivar, Tennessee.

Hardeman County Arts Council President Brandon Burvee shared about the condition of the current building at Western State where the theatre sets are stored. In previous years, the building was suitable, but over time has fallen into disrepair and is no longer an option for safely preserving the set pieces in between productions.

“Our current storage facility for the Hee Haw set and props is in bad shape and no longer suitable for storing these items. They are currently kept in a house on the Western State property, but that house is falling apart,” said Burvee. “You can see through the walls and it is full of mold. Along with storage for Hee Haw, the HCAC is also in need for more storage of our sets, props etc.”

Hardeman County Arts Council President Brandon Burvee noted that you can see through the walls of the house and it is full of mold.

After the first day of its fundraiser, the HCAC received community donations of $475 towards its goal of the cost to the HCAC for the storage building. As recent as Monday, March 25, 2024, it had met a paid/pledged amount of $6,525.

“Through the generosity of our donors, the HCAC + Hee Haw storage building project ensures the preservation of cherished set pieces and props for future generations to enjoy,” said Burvee. “Your support allows us to continue to inspire and delight audiences for years to come.”

You can make a donation to the HCAC to assist in its efforts.
