Somerville Residents Vote to Increase Sales Tax

Voters in the Town of Somerville passed the Somerville Sales & Use Tax Referendum, which was the only item on the March 21, 2023, ballot.

Only 46 of the 1,889 registered voters in the Town of Somerville voted in the election. In addition to Election Day, voters were also able to cast ballots during early voting which was held March 1 – 16, 2023, at the Fayette County Election Commission Office. Nineteen voters cast ballots during early voting, 13 submitted a paper absentee ballot, and 14 ballots were cast on Election Day. The final results were 34 votes FOR the increase and 12 votes AGAINST the increase.

The Sales & Use Tax Referendum (Ordinance No. 2022-016) will increases the town’s sales tax from 2.25 percent to 2.75 percent, except where the sales tax rate is limited or modified by statute.
