Damage to the Hardeman County Arts Center… The Show Must Go On

The Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) announced the discovery of damage to the Hardeman County Arts Center building trusses and roof structure due to the weight of ice accumulation during Winter Storm Fern. The structural damage was first discovered at the end of March as the organization was preparing for the installation of a new upstage traveler curtain and motorized projector screen.
The HCAC consulted a structural engineer who performed an onsite inspection and confirmed the extent of the damage to the building trusses and roof and presented a repair plan. According to the structural engineer’s report, “…the additional loading exceeded typical service conditions and contributed to structural distress in multiple areas…” Damages including deflection, displacement, loss of alignment, splitting/ splintering were noted.
After a meeting with the contractor, and second structural engineer inspection, the building has been deemed unsafe to occupy for productions and events. Out of an abundance of caution, the organization has been forced to temporarily suspend productions and events inside the building.
“While this is a difficult and stressful situation, we are committed to the safety of our cast, crew and audience members. Everyone’s safety is always a priority for the HCAC and we do not feel that we can safely continue to occupy our building.” said Brandon Burvee, HCAC President. “We are currently working on plans to continue to bring the ‘Best of the arts to Hardeman and surrounding counties’”.
What Does This Mean for Always… Patsy Cline?
The upcoming production of Always… Patsy Cline will proceed as scheduled June 5-7, 2026.
Performances will now take place at the Bolivar Central High School Auditorium located at 313 Harris Street, Bolivar, Tennessee, 38008.
The HCAC is currently navigating an insurance claim for the damage, but at this time, it does not know to what extent the insurance company will cover the repairs. If insurance does not cover the repairs, or does not cover the full cost of repairs, this will be costly to the HCAC. Repairs are currently projected to take four to six months.
Want to Donate to the HCAC?
The organization has started a building fund where proceeds from donations will go towards building repairs and improvements. If you wish to donate to the HCAC Building Fund, you can mail checks to HCAC, P.O. Box 249, Bolivar, Tennessee, 38008 or donate online on the HCAC website, www.hcactn.org.
“Productions and events in the early days of the HCAC, prior to having our current building, were performed in local venues including churches, the auditorium at Bolivar Central High School, the Buffet House and the Hardeman County Fairgrounds. We are choosing to embrace these difficult times and go “Back to our Roots” as we continue to bring the ‘Best of the arts to Hardeman and surrounding counties’.” said Brandon Burvee, HCAC President.
“We are able to continue to do what we do best whether it is inside of our building or out in the community at other venues. Community support is vital during this time to support and encourage us along the way. Please pray for the HCAC and its leaders and support the HCAC with monetary donations to help with venue rental expenses, extra production expenses and contributions to the building repair fund. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hardeman County Arts Center, and we hope to see you at Always… Patsy Cline!”
