Senior Spotlight: Mollie Nuckolls

By: Hannah Thompson

Whether she is creating ads for the Bolivar Central High School Yearbook, working at her part-time job at GOLDN, or representing Bolivar as Miss Bicentennial, Mollie Nuckolls puts her whole heart, effort, and enthusiasm into every endeavor that she pursues. In just a few months, Mollie will begin an exciting new endeavor. After graduating in May, she will head to the University of Mississippi in August to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Mollie credits her decision to pursue a degree in healthcare to two influential teachers, Mrs. Huffman and Mrs. Butler. “Their patience, support, and encouragement pushed me to do my best and helped me grow both academically and personally. From them, I gained so much knowledge and confidence in healthcare,” shared Mollie.

The medical courses offered at Bolivar Central have helped Mollie prepare to study nursing in college. “I enjoy learning hands-on skills and understanding how I can make a difference in people’s lives.” Mollie has earned several medical certifications including CNA, EKG, CPR, and OSHA.

Besides participating in HOSA, of which Mollie currently serves as President, she has also been involved in Beta Club, FFA, Spirit Club, volleyball, softball, is the senior business editor of the yearbook staff, was selected as a Girls State delegate, and was chosen as Miss Bolivar Bicentennial, a title she will hold for the next 200 years. Mollie wears the crown with pride and honor. “Being chosen as Miss Bolivar Bicentennial gave me the opportunity to represent not only my school, but also my community and its history. This once in a lifetime experience is one that is so special to me and definitely one I will never forget.”

The sense of community is what Mollie will miss most about BCHS. “Some of my favorite high school memories are going to football games with friends as well as participating in the yearbook. I loved selling ads, taking pictures at events, and helping put the yearbook together. It was so fun to be a part of creating something that captured all of our memories.”

Bolivar Central’s yearbook advisor, Ian Wellons, says the yearbook program won’t be the same without Mollie. “In yearbook, she’s been a leader and someone I can trust to get the job done. Students like Mollie don’t come around often.”

Participating in so many extracurriculars required Mollie to learn how to manage her time. Mollie says that learning how to balance her responsibilities was the biggest lesson she learned throughout high school.  “Planning ahead and setting priorities makes school and life much more manageable.”

If Mollie were to advise incoming freshmen, she would tell them to not be afraid to ask for help, stay organized, and get involved. “High school can be challenging, but managing your time and trying new things will make it a lot easier and more rewarding.”

Mollie says that her parents played an instrumental role throughout her high school career. “They believed in me even when I doubted myself, encouraged me to work hard, and never missed a single event or game. They’ve taught me the value of dedication, hard work, and believing in myself, and I’ll always be grateful for everything they’ve done.”  In fact, Mollie’s mother was the reason she decided to enroll in Middle College, a program that will allow her to graduate high school with an Associate’s Degree. “I told her I didn’t want to because I thought it would be too hard. Looking back, I’m so glad I did.”

As Mollie embarks on her new journey at Ole Miss, she will be guided by Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
